In January About U Photography started the year with the planned relaunch of the brand new look website. I rebuilt page myself to give a fresh new look, the main advantage would be having a secure online proofing facility together with a sound blogging platform, although I know I am not that prolific with posts as yet. Many have commented on the new dynamics & I wanted something that behaved a little differently to other websites. This was a major upheaval as my original website had performed relatively well since 2008, but over time looked a little jaded & was a little limiting in some areas,  hence the revamp. As with anything that is new I did worry that the SEO may take a while to kick in, but I do find you get back what you put in! The page performance times, look & feel are now to my taste, for a while anyway.

Below you will find a brief look of my year in images, whilst not all clients have been included it gives brief glimpse into my photographic journey throughout 2014. Lots of lovely Kent families graced the new photographic studio in Rainham & we also had many clients return, which is always wonderful to see the children again.

Last year really was a real mixed bag of photography, starting off with a studio & location shoot rolled into one with returning clients from Surrey, which saw the birth of my "best of both" lifestyle concept, taking in the warmth of the studio then muddy puddles in the orchard at the back of the studio. Two more sessions then quickly followed in Spring, which made a refreshing change from working in the confines of the studio. It also keeps my photography skills polished!

Once again we were lucky enough to have a number of Medway newborn babies come through the studio from Gillingham, Rainham & Sittingbourne. All very special little ones having spent a number of weeks in the special baby care unit at Medway Maritime Hospital.

We had a number of clients booking in family group photos, some returning from Leybourne, others from just along the road in Upchurch, together with a photo shoot with sisters from Canterbury who wanted some up to date portraits for their Dad's 50th birthday. That seemed to be once of the main reasons for booking a family shoot this year, lots of 50th & 60th birthdays were mentioned! A number of clients also booked in for images as they were visiting family overseas and wanted to present new photographs during their visit.

Alongside my family portrait photography I had a number of commercial photography enquiries from local local businesses, including a  local businessman wanting to update his head shots for networking sites including LinkedIn & later in the year from a young dressmaker from Medway wanting to build her online portfolio of her creations for her website shop.

Autumn is always a wonderful time, the colours in the countryside are just breathtaking at that time of year & make the perfect backdrop for some stunning images. I was thrilled to book a baby lifestyle location shoot with new parents from Gravesend & knew just the right location to capture a beautiful late afternoon portrait session.

2014 also saw the launch of our mini shoot photo sessions, which proved to be very popular with local parents who were disappointed with their children's school portraits. Around 50 children were photographed over a space of a couple of weeks. This will once again become a regular fixture in the studio later this year.

Typically September, October & November months sees the festive trade or what is know in family portrait circles as 'silly season' which was once again very busy with families purchasing prints & wall art in time for Christmas.

To end the year I decided to try something very new with special themed shoots, the subject this time was Frozen & my two little models sure did enjoy playing Elsa during their time in the studio. It was a refreshing change to get creative with the editing & was a hoot at the same time!

2014 did prove to be a fantastic year for the company, making strong links within our new surroundings, with lots of new local families booking in to use the studio. We also achieved our busiest festive period since opening in 2008, breaking our previous total. This is testament to our continued improvement of wall art offerings, with acrylic panels proving to be a big hit this year. What is the new this year you ask? Well I have my eye on some rather nice looking aluminium panels, so watch this space!

So looking forward what does 2015 & beyond hold? More of the same I hope & now that my children are growing a little older & not so impressed about having Dad around as he just doesn't get or have any interest in MINECRAFT the diary has also been opened up to Kent wedding clients for 2015 & 2016. I am looking forward to working once again at some stunning Kent wedding venues over the coming years, with wonderful couples on their big days. Nothing beats the buzz of excitement on a wedding day!

I hope you all have a wonderful 2015 & I hope to see some of you again. Please feel free to contact me soon to book your own family portrait session.
